Description
Junin is Elfi’s home region so trips to Coop.Pangoa are synonymous with family visits for our chocolate makers. To ensure its sustainability, the cooperative also houses a leadership school for farmers and the next generation of farmers. Its activities are aimed not only at cultivating cocoa, but also coffee. Upon arriving at Pangoa, the co-op’s presence can be seen everywhere. It owns the hotel and the coffee shop where one can interact with the next generation of farmers who are seeking to expand their knowledge of coffee and chocolate.
This bar was awarded Silver by the Academy of Chocolate in 2018, and Gold in 2019 and 2020. It was awarded Silver by the ICA in 2018 and 2020-21
Cocoa Origin: Junin, Peru
Brand
Qantu
Raised in Peru, Elfi Maldonado was travelling in her native land when she met Maxime Simard, who was to become her life partner. As their love for one another blossomed, a joint venture simultaneously came to fruition. In 2017 they cofounded Qantu, a bean-to-bar project with a meaningful connection to Peru’s distinct heirloom cacao.
The first three Qantu bars were awarded with two gold medals and one silver medal at the Academy of Chocolate Awards in London in June 2017.
But why the name Qantu? It's the name of the national flower of Peru and Bolivia, a flower which is native to the Peruvian Andes. The word Qantu comes from the native Quechua language and is pronounced 'Kantu'.
