Description
Öko-Caribe is a cacao processor in the town of Pimentel in the Duarte province in the north of the Dominican Republic.
The Duarte province is the largest cacao growing region in the country and Öko-Caribe maintains close relationships with over 150 small farmers within the region providing training and organic certification support.
The farmers harvest the cacao pods, open them, extract the pulp-covered beans and bring them to Öko-Caribe who then complete the fermentation and sun-drying process.
This bar was awarded Bronze in the category “Dark Bean to Bar (under 90%)” by the Academy of Chocolate in 2020.
