Firetree was founded by chocolate experts David Zulman and Martyn O’Dare, whose shared passion for exceptional cocoa inspired them to create a different kind of chocolate company. Having spent decades working in the global chocolate industry, they recognised that some of the world’s most remarkable small-crop cocoas rarely found their way into premium chocolate. In 2019, they joined forces to showcase these rare origins through Firetree’s collection of single-estate chocolates.
Sourcing exclusively from remote volcanic islands and regions, Firetree creates award-winning chocolate with remarkable depth, character and provenance. Every bar captures the distinctive flavours of its origin, revealing the influence of volcanic soils, unique climates and traditional farming expertise.
The name Firetree is inspired by the vibrant yellow, orange and red cocoa pods that from a distance can make the trees appear to be on fire, as well as the volcanic landscapes in which many of the cocoa trees grow.
From islands scattered across the Pacific Ring of Fire to remote volcanic regions of Madagascar, Firetree celebrates the rare connection between origin, terroir and flavour, creating rich, complex chocolate with a true sense of place.
