Pumatiy is a family-owned company from Cusco dedicated to the production and marketing of Chuncho cacao and its derivatives. The company works in close collaboration with more than 35 farming families, with a shared commitment to conserving, improving, and adding value to Chuncho cacao in the Echarati region.
Founded in 1996 in the community of Kapashiari, Koribeni, La Convención province, Cusco, Pumatiy was established by Efraín Puma and Lucía Champi. From its beginnings, the company focused on Chuncho cacao, dedicating itself to improving production practices and quality at a time when the cacao was largely undervalued. Through perseverance and their love for the product, Pumatiy steadily advanced its standards and reputation.
The involvement of the founders’ son, Joel Puma, marked an important step in strengthening quality and productivity. As a result of these efforts, Pumatiy has received multiple national and international recognitions, including Best Peruvian Cacao in 2021 and 2022, silver awards in the 70% and 85% dark chocolate categories in 2021, and several distinctions at the 2022 International Chocolate Awards, including a gold award for cacao quality and a silver award for Best Latin American Cacao.
Today, Pumatiy continues to focus on refining the quality of its Chuncho cacao and offering products that reflect the unique character of the Cusco region.
