Located in Bundibugyo, Western Uganda, Semuliki Forest cacao is grown by organic smallholder farmers in the region, 52% of whom are women.
Fresh cacao is bought by Latitude Trade Co. (LTC), paying at least 20% more to producers than other buyers in Uganda. LTC is a registered B Corporation and operates a wide network of rural collection points.
The growers receive much-needed cash on delivery at the collection points. In addition, LTC supports farmers with agronomy and financial literacy training in addition to promoting organic agroforestry practices.
The beans are mostly Trinitario and Amelonado hybrids.
