This rare variety was found in a small valley, with only a hundred similar trees. After cloning, there are a few thousand trees today, growing in small holder farms around Nicaragua. This still makes it extremely rare.
The trees are host to crawler plants giving the illusion of beards on the trees – hence the name Barba.
